SC Cleared Linux Engineer (Legacy Systems – Red Hat 7)

Location:                          Remote-working

Contract duration:      until 30/01/2026

Rate:                            £400.00pd (Inside IR35)

 

About the Role

We are seeking a strong Linux Engineer with expertise in Red Hat 7 to support legacy on-premise servers. This role will serve as an escalation point for technical issues, providing crucial support to bridge team capacity gaps. The ideal candidate will have experience in service desk environments, handling tasks such as resizing disks and troubleshooting applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Act as an escalation point for technical issues within the Linux environment.
• Monitor incoming requests and respond to issues via the team inbox.
• Perform essential maintenance, including disk resizing and app troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with the wider technical team to ensure smooth operations.

 

Required Skills & Experience

• Linux expertise – strong skills in configuration, management, and diagnosis.
• Red Hat 7 experience within a legacy systems environment.
• Service desk background – must be comfortable in a troubleshooting role.
• Networking fundamentals – solid understanding to support connectivity issues.
• Excellent communication – ability to liaise effectively with clients and teams.

 

Nice to Have

• Ansible experience – best practices for writing and running automation scripts.
• Security awareness – firewalls, SELinux, LDAP, PAM configurations.
• Vault installation & configuration – securing sensitive data effectively.
• Microsoft Server & PowerShell experience – additional cross-platform skills.
• DevOps awareness – understanding technical management of servers.
